Recordings & the Community

Sharing videos of your playing, what other players can do with them, and every other way the community pays you Fame.

Recording yourself is the single most useful practice habit there is, and also the one nobody enjoys. riff.quest gives it somewhere to go: a shared wall of playing, where the standard is honest rather than perfect.

Recordings

Everything the community has posted, plus a tab with only your own.

Posting a recording

1
Record

Phone, webcam or interface, whatever you have. Nobody is marking your camera work

2
Upload it to YouTube

Recordings are shared as video links rather than files

3
Add it here

Paste the link, give it a title, and optionally connect it to the song you were playing

4
Share it

It appears on the recordings wall, where other players can watch, like and comment

Tying a recording to a song makes it show up on that song's page too, which is how you end up watching five other people's takes on the riff you're stuck on.

Why bother

It's the fastest feedback you'll get
A camera hears the timing problems you don't
Recording is a healthy habit
Tick it when you log the session and it's worth a point
It's how challenges work
Monthly challenge entries are recordings, and those pay 100 points and 300 Fame each
Comments
People respond to recordings far more often than to numbers on a leaderboard

Other ways the community pays

+300 Fame

a challenge recording

+20 Fame

someone saves your playlist

+5 Fame

someone likes your playlist

+5 Fame

a thank-you for an exercise you shared

Plus +1 Fame the first time another player completes an exercise you wrote, and +3 Fame the first time you rate a song's difficulty.

Tip

If you want a steady Fame income without grinding, share what you already make: publish the practice exercises you write and the playlists you build. They keep paying long after you've forgotten about them.

Questions people ask

Can I post something private?

Recordings are shared with the community. If you'd rather keep a take to yourself, just don't upload it, and you can still tick the Recording habit when you log the session

Can I delete a recording?

Yes, your own recordings can be removed at any time

Do recordings pay points on their own?

Only through challenges. A recording posted outside a challenge is for feedback, not for score

Who can comment?

Any logged-in player. Notifications tell you when somebody does
