Why It Matters
Hammer-ons allow you to play fluid, rapid lines with a soft, vocal-like attack. The 5-7-9 sequence requires stretching the fingers, which helps build both reach and independent hammer strength in the ring and pinky fingers.
How to Practice
- 1Strike the first note with the pick, then execute the subsequent notes purely with hammer-ons.
- 2Bring each finger down sharply and vertically onto the target fret.
Tips & Techniques
- •Keep your thumb anchored low behind the neck to support the wide finger stretch.
- •Use the exact tip of your fingers to avoid accidentally muting adjacent strings.
